&nbsp;&nbsp;Additional information: <br> <br>LifeSketch: He was born to William and Stella Hill Kackmeister.He was the youngest of seven children.Raised in the sandhills of northern Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa, he grew up breaking horsrs and ranching. He loved hunting and fishing and the outdoors, along with playing cards.At the age of 17, hejoined the Navey during the Korean War and served 4 years on a aircraft carrier. He was discharged from the Navey and spent a short time at home in Ainsworth ,he then enlisted in the Army. While on leave he met Evelyn Marlatt, they were married Dec. 21, 1954. During his 20 years of service his dutey included Korea, 2 tours in Vietnam, and various assignmrnts statewide and abroad. He gave his best and earned many commendations, including the Purple Heart and other awards. After retiring from the military in 1969, he returned to Nebraska. In 1973, due to his extensive background in aircraft maintenance, he was hired by Bell Helicopter International. His work there took him to various locations throught the world. Donald moved to Arnold in 1998 and then to North Platte in 2003.Suvivors include his wife; children, Dale (Pam), William (Cecelia) and Linda all of North Platte; Darrell (Sheryl) of Union; and Alan (Patricia) of Bastrop, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Walter, Gladys, Margurite, Esther, Auther and Robert
